Firefox 1.0 Released

Yerah, finally! Firefox has been released. So far, it’s ok, but I had some problems with the NetFlix.com web site.

Update: Firefox has a feature that lets you only see images that are coming from the web site you are visiting. I allowed images from “cdn.nflximg.com” and NetFlix.com is fine.

Wired News: Stop Trying to Persuade Us

A fascinating article by Wired News, Stop Trying to Persuade Us gives a quick glance at a PBS Frontline show, The Persuaders, airing tonight. It is also interesting to note that there are eight ads (4 images, 4 text) on the page of this article.

Idiot Spammer Faking PlanetMike.com return address

An idiot spammmer is using his network of zombie spamming servers to send out tons of spew selling some over-the-counter stock. And they are faking random email addresses from the PlanetMike.com domain. I’m up to over 500 bounces that I’ve received so far. Jerk.

And the jerks that are running Windows without a firewll and without any virus protection are jerks as well.

Idiot for Congress

Wow, I only just got my first piece of political candidate spam for this election cycle. It only had 166 email addresses listed in the To: field. And I only received four copies of this garbage. I guess I know who to vote for now: the OTHER candidate!

Gmail Invitations

I’ve got a few Gmail invitations, in case there is anyone out there who doesn’t have a Gmail email address yet. Just send me an email and I’ll get you invited. GMail.com.

“Spam” in the Subject

It appears that at least one product is configured to not allow the word “spam” to be in the subject line of an email message. Nice, see CDT Policy Post 10.15: Spam Continues to Plague Industry and Users.

Real.com Requires an email address to download Real Player 10

Why would Real.com now require an email address to download their “free” software? And why in the world is the license agreement nineteen pages long? It’s quite a bit scary to think that that stupid text gives Real the right to do whatever it wants and if someone simply clicks “Agree” that Real would be indemnified from any problems they create.
