Tiger Automator Bug

I just submitted this bug report to Apple: “I wrote an automator script that moves all .webloc files on my desktop into a folder on my desktop. It works fine within automator, but as a folder action, I can see it run when I drop a file on the desktop, but it doesn’t do anything. If I ‘Show Action When Run’ it works fine. Kind of defeats the purpose though.”

Wonderful, 200 bounced messages and counting. Here’s one of the gems.

QOIL – Fax Stock Spam

When it rains, it pours. Quest Oil is being fax-spammed too. Let’s check out the history of QOIL.

Recent Price: $0.20
Accumulation Levels to: $2.00

Well, the last trade was at 17 cents. It’s already falling. I feel bad for the loser who bought a million sharers in late April 2005 for what looks like 35 cents a share. Who am I kidding? No I don’t feel bad for them. You don’t invest if you can’t afford the loss. And you especially don’t spam other people to try to get your money back.

DGCP fax spam from "FG" Reported to SEC

I just filed a complaint with the Securities and Exchange Commission about the mysterious “FG.” FG is the sender of the spam fax. I have the original fax available if you’d like to see it. Just ask me in the comments, or email me.

DGCP – Fax Stock Spam

Agh! Now the losers are sending me “stock tips” through my fax number. What a joke. Let’s examine their claims.

Recent Price: $0.40
Accumulation Levels to: $1.00
Exit Level: $2.50

Over the past year, they’ve gone from $1.00 down to the current $0.44. Hmm, looks like its going the wrong way, so the poor sap who got stuck with the shares is trying to pump the price up so he can recoup some of his money. Don’t fall for it. Don’t invest in anything you hear about from unsolicited methods (answering machine messages, spam, faxes, junk mail).

"FTC Recommends ISPs Disconnect Spam Zombies"

Found at SlashDot:

CNN is carrying a story about the the FTC’s plans and concerns around spam zombies. They say they will be identifying such zombie hosts and notifying ISPs, and are recommending that the ISPs disconnect indicated users. There’s also a recommendation likely to raise the ire of the geekier sorts: that ISPs only permit users to send mail through their own servers (presumably by blocking port 25 outbound).” From the article: “Law enforcers in 25 other countries, from Bulgaria to Peru, are also participating in the campaign, the FTC said. Absent from the list of cooperating countries was China, where experts say rapid growth and a relative lack of technical sophistication have led to a large number of zombie computers.”

Well, duh, ISPs sohuld kill off any infested computer. Heck we should just slashdot any zombied computer. As for the Port 25 blocking, no. that is a short term fix that only annoys those of us who now what we’re doing, and aren’t the ones infected anyways.

Hundreds of German spam this weekend

We’ve received hundreds of pieces of German spam from infected Windows machines. Luckily, SpamAssassin is catching most of them now that I’ve tweaked our rules.

Is political international spam still spam? Or is it only abuse? Or simply annoying?

Shocked! Unsub request doesn't work!

Wow, an unsubscribe request on a piece of spam didn’t work. What will they think up next?

170 FNPL bounces and counting

So far, 170 bounces of the FNPL spam scam from bad email addresses.

FNPL faked "unsubscribe address"

Wow, the idiot sending out the spam under my planetmike.com domain is falsifying the email address used for “unsubscribe requests.” Sounds like a Federal Trade Commission report is soon to come. not that the FTC is much better than the SEC, but I’ve got to start somewhere. Here are the addresses falsified so far.
